Night Witches by Kathryn Lasky6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() The author did a great job in establishing the setting and immersing the reader in it.īut World War II wasn't just the setting for the book, it was also the plot. I learned something and I was entertained. And that to me is exactly what I want in historical fiction. It felt exciting and new while adding complexity to something I feel like I know about. It showed a different side of a familiar period in history. I don't think I've ever read one set in Russia and I really enjoyed that. Most books I have read about WWII take place in Germany, France, or Poland. Part of what I really liked about this book was the fact that it's a book about World War II that felt both unique and familiar. It was everything I hoped it would be and a really fantastic and engaging read. I got all of these things in the course of this book. I'm a huge fan of historical fiction and I love unique kinds of WWII stories and books set in Russia. When I first learned about this book I knew that I needed to read it. *** I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. ![]()
